Just sharing a tip for more outdoor learning and fun as Scouting slows down during the summer. REI has "Outdoor School Classes" you can take. Visit the REI Raleigh website for more details. NOTE: These REI Outdoor School Classes are not BSA programs, so you'll need to look into these on your own. You can apply BSA practices for best results - use the "buddy system" and share the fun with a fellow scout, and [adults] look for ways to make it an experience that has two-deep leadership for the boys.
This meeting will take place Tuesday night, July 1 at 7:00 - 9:00pm at PGUMC. This meeting is important for troop functioning. Items covered will include: * Plans are made for campouts and other activities for the remainder of the year, * Statements of the Troop's finances are presented by the Tresurer, * Other resources are reviewed and needs are identified. * Staffing requirements are identified and addressed. This semi-annual meeting is a good opportunity to update your calendar and have a say in what the troop is planning for the remainder of 2014. All parents and Scouts are welcome to attend and participate - come with questions, ideas and suggestions. The purpose of this meeting is to plan campouts, service projects and other activities, as well as to discuss troop functioning. Click here to see the notes from our January meeting.
Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (FMST) is looking for FMST volunteers to help answer questions about the MST at our booth at the Eno River Festival in Durham on July 4th & 5th. * If you can help out, please click here to sign up for one or more shifts at the table. Prior to the event, you'll receive detailed instructions about volunteering at the booth - handing out maps, brochures, guide books and more to share with people who are interested in learning more about the trail. * All you need to do is show up and share your knowledge of-and enthusiasm for-the MST. * Questions? As of Mr. Harrison's last update, annual health/medical forms are either incomplete or missing for 19 Scouts (listed below). When you turn in your forms, please be sure to have 2 copies and make sure they are COMPLETE along with 2 copies of the insurance card. Make sure the scout signs and dates as the participant and the parent signs and dates too.
